This is a comparison of boot times between windows 8, 7 and vista. (32 bit)
Averages:
Windows 8 - 00:58
Windows 7 - 01:07 (+ 9s vs Windows 8)
Windows Vista - 01:31 (+ 24s vs Windows 7)
The results are fairly solid, however this is a 'rough' test because:
1 - The vista install had some OEM software installed (although it was mostly inactive)
2 - One of the Windows 8 start-ups may have been effected by a delay at the lock screen.
3 - The Developer Preview of Windows 8 may differ from the final version.
All 6 tests (2 for each OS) were completed on the same laptop:
Sony VAIO VGN-P11Z
CPU: 1.33 GHz Atom Z520 (32 bit)
RAM: 2GB DDR2 533MHz
HDD: 60GB 4200rpm
GFX: GMA 500
